Lisa Jander is the Co-Founder of Fusion Farms, the Director of Sustainability, Art, and Education, which has her at the helm of all our project management and task tracking duties, as well as organizing all the myriad moving parts that comprise our amazing puzzle.
Lisa has been researching, testing and perfecting Fusion Farms’ product array of living microgreens, lettuces, basils, and traditional yerba buena mint, which have been selling tremendously well since we started our pilot operations here in Mayagüez. All of our standards of operating procedures, microgreens growing equipment, seed library, and cleaning protocols are in her capable green fingers.
As a former Sous Chef in Vail Colorado combined with her Italian heritage, Lisa appreciates cultivating fresh ingredients with incredible flavor profiles to deliver to consumers in their raw form. She believes less is more and with excellent produce, each product can speak for itself. Lisa allows the seed to be fully expressed through the natural process of feeding the plants through aquaponics with no chemical nutrients or pesticides necessary for the purest form of food possible.
Lisa also spearheads Fusion Farms’ community relations with UPR Mayagüez and leads the tour groups we invite to explore our pilot facility in Mayagüez. In this respect, Lisa has been instrumental in getting Fusion Farms to where it is today. She truly sets the standard in terms of work ethic and farm productivity, so much so that it would take an Olympic athlete to keep up with her blistering pace and infallible energy.
On the farm, Lisa created a “Food Fence” initiative to inspire others to grow food on the miles of chainlink fencing all over the island. As a community outreach, Lisa has planted an entire food fence that is accessible to anyone 24 hours a day, which included passion fruit, Malabar spinach, cucumbers, beans, cucamelons, cherry tomatoes, and many other vining fruits and vegetables. She feels this type of education model will give hope for food security with a fresh, nutritious abundance of options grown right out the front door.
Lisa Jander is a self-proclaimed “handywoman” and loves every kind of power tool. As a former kitchen designer for US Remodelers, Lisa has extensive design, project management, and construction experience, which have powered her many contributions to not only the startup of Fusion Farms but also the efficient and effective ongoing operations of sustainability projects.
Lisa was also the co-founder of a home repair and remodeling company in Michigan, where she honed her skills in team leadership, as well as system operations relating to real estate, construction, and design.
In addition, Lisa Jander is a certified Life and Relationship Coach, public speaker, and author of “Dater’s Ed: Driver’s Ed Model for Dating.” Becoming an author was a by-product of the passion she has for mentoring teens and young adults and has parlayed into her responsibility for Fusion Farms’ educational foundation and community outreach programs. Lisa is instrumental in the development of the partnership with the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez to provide internships and jobs for agricultural students and graduates.
